The Challenge

Strait of Öresund

SwimÖresund entered into cooperation with the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) in 2021 and established a database for swimming between Denmark and Sweden. The distance is 20 km (10.8 nautical miles).

Before You Apply

Preparation Matters

Applications are assessed individually. Previous open-water experience, documented swimming ability, preparation and the swimmer’s ability to complete the crossing safely are taken into consideration.

Swimmers should be able to maintain at least 3 km/h for 6 hours continuously.

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

SwimÖresund Rules

Rules and Regulations

All swimmers are required to comply with the SwimÖresund rules and regulations. By accepting a crossing with SwimÖresund, the swimmer confirms that these rules have been read, understood and accepted.

Responsibility and Risk

As a swimmer, you should be aware of the risks and the responsibility connected to marathon swimming. You should never attempt to swim in open water without being aware of the risks connected to your own survival. Thus, marathon swimming requires total dedication.
