Coaches
Trainers / Eksperts / Coaches
It is a good idea to make use of a swimming coach. For a crossing like SwimÖresund, it can be crucial to have a good open water coach who specializes in ocean swimming. Here you can get swimming programs designed for marathon swimming and get help and coaching in this particular area.
The coaches offer courses for swimmers of all levels. The course can take place via telephone and online meetings and depending on where you are in the world, there is also the possibility of physical 1:1 meetings or group sessions.
If you need to improve your swimming technique, coaches can analyze your arm strokes and your general swimming technique with a professional eye. In this way, you ensure that you are in the best possible position in the sea. You may want to have someone video your swimming style and then upload it to the coach for feedback.
Working with a coach will not only make you a more efficient and faster sea swimmer, but also prepare you mentally for the big challenge.
In addition to hard work, commitment and dedication, you also need to work on your willpower and mental attitude, so that you can, for example, better withstand the cold and other challenges along the way.
Remember that it is important to find a swimming coach with whom you have good chemistry and with whom you can work well together towards your goal. After all, you are writing history.

Pilots
SwimÖresund Pilots
Remember to book your escort boat in good time. Pilots may have reserved in advance.
Escort boats on SwimÖresund’s homepage are neither commercially nor financially connected to SwimÖresund, they are run independently. Therefore it is up to you to negotiate a contract and a price between them and you. SwimÖresund only handles your registration. SwimÖresund only handles your registration.
Escort boats, listed on SwimÖresund’s homepage are carefully selected to create the best possible conditions for the swimmers. The crew has the relevant qualifications and experience navigating in Öresund. They are equipped with technical equipment enabling them to be in contact with Danish and Swedish maritime authorities and vessels enabling them to navigate safely in Öresund.
When you order your escort boat, you will not be assigned a specific day to swim. Which day you swim in your window depends on weather and sea conditions. Therefore, you must be patient, as the weather is the only thing that cannot be changed. Unfortunately, this can also mean that you will be able to swim in the agreed window.
When you contact an escort boat, it is important to align your wishes and expectations with what the escort boat can offer you. It will be unfortunate for both of you if disagreements arise along the way.
You will probably need to pay a deposit, when you and the escort boat have agreed on dates and your “window”. This deposit is normally non-refundable. When and how the remaining amount must be settled must be agreed between you and the escort boat.
In marathon swimming, there are unfortunately many risk factors that you have to take into account. It could be, for example, that your life is in danger or that of the boat, encounters unexpected weather conditions, the engine fails or breaks down, the current has become too strong so that you cannot reach shore, unexpected fog or you are in a dangerous position for descent. You may therefore find that your swimming is interrupted. It may also be that you do not perform optimally on the day. Therefore, it may be a good idea to discuss these scenarios with your pilot at the time of your booking in order to book a new time with the pilot.
You must be particularly aware that some of the escort boats are subject to Danish legislation on associations. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the individual swimmer and their companions to insure themselves against the risks that may arise during the crossing on board the boat and in the water.
